I'm a new teacher!!

Well, I guess from the heading, you can see that I got the job at Richland Elementary as the Autism teacher! I am so excited and a little overwhelmed! The first day of school is August 10th and I have new teacher training, restraint training, medication training, etc. up until the day school starts. I also have to start getting my classroom ready and reading kids IEPs. I have bought some stuff to decorate, but I am going to keep it pretty simple. I don't want to send my kids into stimulation overload. Well, I will keep you updated and hopefully put up pictures of my classroom when I get it finished.

Things are changing...

As most of you probably know, I just graduated in May with my undergrad in special education. I started grad school this summer and was planning on only going to school (not getting a job yet) so that I would graduate and be finished by next May. That was the plan and I was sticking to it! Well, my plans have possibly changed. Last Thursday (July 16) my friend Stephanie, who graduated with me in special ed. also, called me to tell me that the teacher she interned with had called and asked her if she knew anyone who would be willing to interview for a position teaching in the Autism room at Richland Elementary. She told me that she would talk to me about it (The teacher already knew me because I interned at the same school). I contacted the teacher and told her I was interested and she contacted the principal, who then contacted me. I filled out an application on-line and submitted several things such as transcripts and proof of highly qualified. Now, only 5 days later, I have an interview with the special education coordinator for Auburn City School and then I leave and meet with the principal and Richland Elementary. Ahhh! It's so crazy!
I created this blog to keep friends and family updated and to share my adventures in being a first year teacher (if I get the job). I feel like God has just placed this opportunity in my lap and is saying, "Here, Ally. Take it!" This is seriously my dream job, that I thought I would have the opportunity for SEVERAL years down the road. Now I am being given the opportunity much sooner than expected. Please pray for me! I'm going to need it!
